The Research Award was instituted in 1989 both to recognize significant contributions by the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education (CAFCE) members to scholarly research in Co-operative Education, and to encourage such research. The Research Award was renamed the Dr. Graham Branton Research Award in 1996 in honour of Dr. Graham Branton who was a leader in co-operative education research, program development and quality accreditation standards.
Dr. Graham Branton was the founder of co-operative education at the University of Victoria. Dr. Branton authored or co-authored over 15 scholarly publications, and delivered more than 30 papers throughout the world on the educational and societal benefits co-operative education as well as his research in chemistry, specializing in ionization phenomena and mass spectrometric methods of analysis. Dr. Branton was a model of professional commitment and dedication and was an invaluable resource for many provincial and national co-operative education practitioners. Dr. Branton chaired many committees of CAFCE, including serving as president, and the Association for Co-operative Education-British Columbia/Yukon/N.W.T. A recipient of the CAFCE Research Award and the Albert S. Barber Award, Dr. Branton, died in 1995 at the age of 52.
Nomination Eligibility
Nominators must be members of CAFCE.
For an individual award, the candidate must have been a member of CAFCE for at least 6 months prior to submission of a nomination.
In the case of team research, a joint award can be given to a team if all members of the team are members of CAFCE. If a team member(s) is not a CAFCE member, the non-member’s contributions will be acknowledged by CAFCE.
Although this award is available each year, the Nomination and Awards Committee reserves the right to withhold bestowal of the award.
