President's Message

Dear CAFCE Members,

A new membership year begins in a few weeks, and I would like to thank you for your continued support of the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education (CAFCE). CAFCE exists as a volunteer organization to support the initiation and development of quality co-operative education, and to provide a community for practitioners to work towards these objectives. CAFCE will continue to grow in the coming years, and this growth will require the participation of our members. I would like to thank all of our dedicated volunteers for their commitment to CAFCE, and encourage all interested members to volunteer their time and talents -- CAFCE's future relies on the involvement of its members.

Your 2010/2011 membership offers some new benefits.  Our website has a new look and feel.  This was a big project that included the completion of the National Statistics Database.  This database will allow us to get a better picture of how and where co-op is active in Canada.  In addition, new web benefits have just been approved by the Board of Directors: coming this year will be a very effective tool for searching our online program directory, a discussion board, and a communication tool that will enhance our ability to email members.

Revisions to the Accreditation process will make it easier for members to have their programs accredited, and members of the accreditation council are available to make applying is easy and productive as possible.

This membership year, your CAFCE membership fee will once again give you a World Association for Cooperative Education (WACE) membership at no additional cost!  Not only does this translate into a significant savings of your WACE membership fees, but further savings if you choose to participate in WACE events at the discounted registration fee offered to members.

Please remember that your membership fees are an investment in our Association.  This year, we particularly want to encourage institutions with only one or two members to add members and have adjusted the fee schedule to make that easier.

Please complete the CAFCE 2010/11 Membership Renewal Application document and return to the CAFCE Office at cafce@cafce.ca by September 30, 2010. We will be happy to forward an invoice for your membership fee upon your request.

I hope that you will be available to attend the CAFCE AGM in Winnipeg, MB on Thursday, November 4, 2010. The CAFCE Professional Development Committee is preparing a session to follow the AGM that should be of great interest to all members. More information concerning this event will be forwarded to all members in the future.

Thank you once again for your support of CAFCE, and please do not hesitate to contact the CAFCE Office or me should you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Kevin Rolston
CAFCE President
