About this Award

Since 1994, CAFCE has chosen a student each year to receive the CAFCE Co-op Student of the Year Award (CSOTYA). This award recognizes a wide variety of achievements -- job performance, academic performance and responsibility, and particular contributions to their co-op employer, to Co-operative Education, and the community-at-large.The award is presented to a college and a university Co-operative Education student. The two winning students will be celebrated during National Co-operative Education Week. They receive a certificate and a $500 cash award from CAFCE to recognized their achievements. All nominated students will receive a letter and certificate of recognition for their national nomination.

In addition, the two winning students will receive the Emery-Dufault Award ($500) in recognition of the contributions of two of the founding members of Co-operative Education in Canada, Dr. Charles Leslie (Les) Emery and Professor George Joseph Dufault.

 


 

Nomination Guidelines and Form

ELIGIBILITY:

A.    Any undergraduate, diploma, or postgraduate student registered full-time in a recognized post-secondary co-operative education program at a CAFCE member institution throughout the period from January - December 2011.  Secondary school students are not eligible for this award.
B.    In order to be eligible for this award, students must be nominated by a member of CAFCE with approval of the employers.  A CAFCE member institution may nominate no more than two (2) candidates and from different programs within the institution wherever possible.
C.    Co-op programs must meet the CAFCE Definition of Co-operative Education (
http://www.cafce.ca/en/coop-defined).
D.    Work term, for which the student is being nominated, must be completed within the calendar year, 2011. Candidates may not be nominated twice in two consecutive years for a work term that spans two calendar years.

 All applications must follow the current year's application process.  Those applications that follow an earlier year's application process will have their applications edited by the CAFCE office to meet the current year's criteria.  Only those nomination packages that meet the guidelines will be forwarded to the selection committee. Incomplete or improperly prepared nominations will be disqualified by CAFCE. 

Members will received the 2012 nomination material in the upcoming months.
